Last night, while indulging in my second bubble bath of the week (I’m addicted), I finished another of Liane Moriarty’s gossip-ridden page turners, Big Little Lies. You may remember that I’m a Moriarty fan. This is the third novel that I’ve read of hers, and though they all feature a different cast of characters in a completely different set of circumstances, they’re the same in that you just can’t stop reading them.
Moriarty has an enticing way of weaving together an entire story while leaving massive plot points out completely. She’ll string you along, wondering for half of the book what exactly she’s referring to when she says “the accident.” Finally she’ll drop it on you and you’ll realize that your suspicions were way off base. Gah.
Big Little Lies is mysterious and empathetic all at the same time. It’s written about a group of Australian preschool moms and their husbands, who live fairly typical (at least on the surface) suburban lives. But somehow the characters all feel relatable and tangible, even to me — an early-twenties woman living in L.A. Of course, what makes the story so delicious is everything that you don’t know, so I won’t say any more. ;)
Anyways. She knocked it out of the park and you’ll love it! Go check it out or Kindle it, or download it to your phone and listen on your way to work like I do. :)
Any good reads lately? I’d love to know!
P.S. Cross your fingers!
