We spent several days during our trip exploring neighboring islands by ferry and by boat (photos coming soon!), but we also reserved a few leisurely afternoons for snorkeling and napping at the beach right outside our condo in Sapphire Bay.
Though I’ve lived by water my entire life (first in Seattle, now in Southern California), I have never seen the ocean look so perfectly clear. The colors of my boyfriend’s swim trunks looked just as vibrant ten feet from me in the water as they did when he was standing next to me on land. It was insane.
I got into an especially nice routine: Snorkel for half an hour, swim back to shore and lay out on the sand, snack a bit and have a sip of pina colada, and then wade back into the water just as my skin was starting to heat up again. Repeat, repeat, repeat.
One night, we walked out to the ocean just as the moon was emerging from the clouds. It was eerie and beautiful, and of course the photographer in me was dying to take a photo, but I’d left my camera at the condo! Every once in a while, it’s nice to see things without a lens, though.
I somehow managed to avoid the bugs and sunburn until the very last day, which is really more than I could have asked for. ;)
