Photo of my grandparents, who celebrated nearly 50 Valentine’s Days together.
With Valentine’s Day just over a week away, it seems like pink scalloped hearts and chocolate boxes are popping up everywhere. Do you have any plans?
I have to admit, though I love all holidays for their festivity (and pink and red are my two favorite colors!) Valentine’s Day isn’t at the top of the list. I seem to associate the holiday with expensive prix fixe menus and generic gifts.
On my first-ever Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend, we took a different approach. Instead of making reservations, he went to Whole Foods and stocked up on the ingredients for a three course meal. We cooked and chatted and drank wine — it was a “normal night,” just a bit more special.
It felt so much more romantic than a date among rose-petaled tables with drippy candles and other couples smooching around us. ;)
We’ve done it ever since! This year, we’re heading out of town to Austin, Texas, so we’ll miss our night in. We’ll have to make up for it when we return.
What about you? Do you like to go out, or stay in? Any plans?
