After a busy week, nothing felt better than loading up the car today for a weekend getaway. We packed champagne, slippers, and a box of Sees chocolates, along with a few outfits and a change of undies, of course.
I’m writing from Ojai, California, which is just under two hours up the coast from Los Angeles. It feels like lightyears away though, especially at the Lavender Inn, where Christmas wreaths hang in the windows and the floors creak comfortingly under your feet.
First, our room, which is an appropriate shade of lavender.
The french doors leading out to our porch were a sweet surprise! I’m thinking of bringing our breakfast back up to eat out there in the morning.
I peeked into a few unoccupied neighboring rooms as I toured the hallways. How could I resist those open doors?!
Let’s head down the stairs and see what we can find on the ground floor. The inn was originally built in 1874, when it functioned as Ojai’s first schoolhouse. I love the historic feel of the architecture and furnishings — the only thing that would make it better would be a ghost or two. ;)
The sitting room is lovely, with plush leather furniture and that tremendous mantle.
They had a chess table set up for a casual game between friends. Ahem.
But no worries — these little guys looked like they were loving it!
I hope you’re having a good weekend. I’m planning on taking the rest of the weekend off for some true R&R, but I’ll be back Monday with more from our Ojai adventures.
