Our stay in DC is coming to a close and we’re moving on to New Jersey today for Thanksgiving. But by all accounts, I have loved exploring this city. I’ve lived on the West Coast for my entire life, so it’s exciting to visit a place so steeped in history. I’ll admit that our on-point Obama accents got a little more use than usual. ;)
After touring museums by day, we were lucky to stay in a historically rich hotel called The Willard at night. It really made the visit feel complete.
I’ve always loved American history and it was thrilling to picture past presidents roaming the same halls that we strolled through before a day of sight-seeing. Is it just me, or is this the perfect place for a Nancy Drew mystery? Let the sleuthing begin!
According to The Willard, Martin Luther King Jr. even caught a wink of sleep at the Willard the night after giving his famous “I Have A Dream” speech. The hotel has such a celebrated history that they created a little museum in one corner of the first floor, which includes artifacts and a timeline of important events. I have to admit that I don’t think I’ve ever been to a hotel that had artifacts!
We had a particularly important guest visit our sitting room. Oh hello, John. :)
All in all, it was really more than I could have asked for. I’d highly recommend The Willard, both for its history and comfort, and for its central location. We even stepped out one chilly night to see the White House all lit up just a few blocks away! Such a treat.
