Have you been keeping up with the Capsule Wardrobe craze? I’ve seen it pop up on many of my favorite fashion blogs recently. Here’s the idea — instead of purchasing clothes throughout the season and wearing only a few of your favorite pieces, you create a capsule wardrobe. You compile a list of about 35 items, including both new and already-owned pieces, that will make up your entire wardrobe for the season. Here’s an example, if you’re curious.
It’s intended to minimize costs, as well as the size of your closet. When you wake up in the morning and head over to figure out what to wear, all you see are clothes that you love.
I like this idea, but ultimately, I also like having a wide variety of stylish clothing! Some days, I know I need to be productive so I wear my cutest, most studious and preppy getup. And then the next day I’m going out for drinks with my girlfriends and would rather look like my version of a bohemian fortune teller. Living in LA helps too — many of the clothes that I own can be worn year-round. So for these reasons, a capsule wardrobe doesn’t work for me.
I’ve noticed that my jewelry collection, on the other hand, stays fairly consistent! With that in mind, I decided to create a capsule jewelry wardrobe for this fall. Here are a few of my must-have, frequently-worn pieces that I believe have a place on almost any woman’s dresser.
With holiday parties on the horizon, vintage cocktail rings are a must! I love pairing mine with a simple black dress, though I occasionally wear it with jeans and t-shirt on a particularly rebellious day. (Another option).
Many of my day-to-day outfits just don’t feel complete without a timeless watch. See what I did there? :) Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer those gold hands over my iPhone’s glowing screen. (Exact watch).
I typically keep my earrings pretty simple and these are perfection. I love the way they catch the light without being overpowering or high-maintenance. I wear them almost every day. (Exact earrings).
Though I don’t wear bangles often, I enjoy accessorizing with one when I’m going for a more bohemian look. I think this one, which looks vaguely Egyptian to me, is especially pretty. (Another option).
A sparkly statement necklace can make or break an outfit, especially when you’re getting all dolled up. This one would be equally as appropriate with a gown as it would be worn with a simple blouse. (Another option).
When I wear my hair back on a night out, I almost always choose elegant, dangly earrings. I immediately feel a bit more put together. (Another option).
My mom gave me this turquoise ring for my 16th birthday and it’s remained in rotation. It matches perfectly with my Converse, if you know what I mean. (Another option).
I found this simple necklace in Oregon and have worn it almost every day since. It hits right below my angel bones, which I think is especially flattering. (Another option).
Any must-have pieces of jewelry you’d add? I’m curious!
