Last night as I was talking to my boyfriend, I mentioned that I’ll need to hone my subway map skills. He laughed and reminded me– people don’t use subway maps anymore. There are apps for that. Oh. :)
I’ll be spending most of my time alone, running around the city while Tim is in meetings for work. I can’t wait! I consider myself a bit of an introvert and I have no problem sight-seeing alone. Do you have any suggestions for what to see and do?
Just for fun, I thought I’d include an excerpt of my college application essay, which I wrote about the Museum of Natural History. The grammar isn’t perfect, but my (super nerdy) love of the museum is pretty evident. I can’t wait to return.
“As I finished my self-guided tour of Central Park, I saw the Museum of Natural History towering above me and something clicked. Maybe it was the glossy marble walls, the perfectly engraved lettering, or even the statue of Teddy Roosevelt that sort of, well, made my heart race a little.
I rushed up the stairs into the building, only to find out that a general tour was starting in five minutes by the entrance to the Hall of African Mammals. I whipped out my map. The African Mammals were shown to be just about 20 feet in front of me! Sure enough, I looked up, and just through the solid wooden doors was a diorama of elephants stampeding. How lucky!”
