I was given a juicer as a gift early this year and it quickly became a staple in our kitchen. I love that I can throw most any combination of fruit and vegetables in and it will produce delicious, healthy juice. (On those rare occasions when it’s less than savory, I add a little lemon and it does the trick).
That said, I thought it might be fun to share my favorite go-to recipe.
If you’ve just started juicing, I think this is a perfect place to start. It’s delicious, the nutritional benefits are superb, and as with all juice, it provides a quick and healthy energy boost.
The Gateway Juice
1 large handful of spinach (go crazy with the spinach– you won’t taste it)
I’ve found that this formula works pretty well for juice in general. 1-2 fruit servings, some spinach and/or other leafy greens, and a couple of vegetables.
- Trader Joes fruit and vegetable wash is perfect for pre-washing your ingredients.
- Try sandwiching your leafy greens in between more substantial fruit like an orange or apple. It will help slow down the juicing, which will produce more juice as opposed to just pushing the produce through.
- I love using whiskey ice cubes — one in each glass– when serving juice. It’s easier, and they melt much more slowly.
